AJDS Letter to Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr: Susiya Demolitions

This has been sent to Bob Carr by AJDS as Minister for Foreign Affairs. We also ask you to voice your concern to him foreignminister.carr AT dfat.gov.au
Dear Minister Carr,
We write to you as matter of urgency to ask you to voice your strong concerns to Israel’s Ambassador in Australia, and through our representatives in Tel Aviv to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
We ask that you call for the Israeli Civil Administration to remove the demolition orders it has placed on 51 structures in the village of Susiya, near Hebron in the West Bank.
The buildings threatened with demolition include not only the homes of villagers, but a building funded through international aid programmes, including a shelter funded by AUSAID. The demolition of these buildings would cause serious harm to the community in Susiya, and it is vital that these demolitions not proceed.
Demolition of the buildings should also be seen as an act which impacts upon Australia’s friendly relationships with Israel.
The AJDS looks forward to your prompt response, indicating the outcomes of your discussions.
