New AJDS staff member- Max Kaiser

Max Kaiser: the new AJDS Community Organiser.
The AJDS has a new part-time paid staff member to help with the many demands that the organisation faces in planning functions, communicating with our members and more actively pursuing the role of a progressive voice amongst Jews and a Jewish voice amongst progressives.
We’ll let Max give a brief sketch of himself–
I’m 24 years old, grew up in Brunswick and currently live in Coburg. I recently graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in social theory.
I’ve been involved in many campaigns for social justice including education issues at Melbourne University where I served as Welfare Officer of the student union. During this time I was especially active in the fight for student housing rights. I have also been involved in the union movement, refugee rights, indigenous self-determination campaigns and community development through the arts. I am especially committed to a just peace in Israel/Palestine, a commitment deepened after visiting the region in 2010 with family. As well as touring all through Israel and meeting relatives I had the opportunity to visit the West Bank a number of times with some left-wing NGOs and was thoroughly moved by the plight of the Palestinian people.
As well as working for the AJDS, I am involved in a number of media projects including a regular `radical look at higher education´ – themed radio show on 3CR community radio. I am also Reviews Editor of Arena magazine, and am currently working on creating my own online radio show.
